Preconception, Fertility & Pregnancy Care

Ensuring awareness of preconception preparation is of the highest importance to Tonic Australia.

"Before you were conceived I wanted you
Before you were born I loved you
Before you were here a minute  I would die for you
This is the miracle of life."

Maureen Hawkins

Preconception Health Care- A healthy body is a fertile body.

The combined evidence of many eminent researches shows that conditions such as subfertility, miscarriage, low birth weight, premature birth, malformation, breast-feeding difficulties, hyperactivity, learning problems, asthma and eczema are often preventable. All that is needed is a little attention to the nutrients and toxins that go into your body prior to conception and during your pregnancy.

Sperm production can take up to 116 days and the eggs mature for approximately 100 days prior to ovulation, during which time they are both vulnerable to damage from toxins (eg. cigarettes, alcohol, pesticides, radiation, caffeine) and suffer genetically as a result of nutritional deficiencies. Therefore, preconception health care for both partners should be practiced for at least 4 months prior to conception attempts. Most couples are keen to conceive as quickly as possible. However, preconception care ensures all underlying causes are dealt with prior to conception attempts rather than seeking reasons after problems have occurred.

Preconception Health Care is not a new idea. Many traditional societies practiced preconception health care. The ancient Greeks and Romans knew that alcohol taken before and around the time of conception was damaging to the later development of the fetus. Many traditional societies fed special diets to their young women and men of child bearing age.

Most couples prepare for their weddings, holidays, family gatherings, so why not prepare for the birth of your baby and ensure that all the building blocks necessary to create a healthy baby are present.

Preconception health care can help to:
• Improve fertility in both females and males
• Decrease the risks of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth
• Decrease the risk of congenital malformations
• Improve general and reproductive health
• Avoid postnatal depression
• Avoid stretch marks
• Help prevent nausea of pregnancy, stretch marks and pregnancy complications.

Invest 4 months in preparing for your baby’s conception and optimizing your health at the same time.
